an original member of the Women's Emergency Brigade


Geraldine Blankenship, an original member of the Women's Emergency Brigade who came to the aid of the Sitdowners from the 44 day Sitdown Strike that took place at General Motors in Flint in 1937 stands in front of a new monument that depicts the Sitdown Strike and includes original windows from the building during the Unveiling of the 'UAW Tribute to Woman' Monument at the UAW Region 1-C headquarters on Labor Day.

health center closing


A local health center in Flint is closing its doors and relocating across town making it hard for many mothers who utilize the WIC program and have little transportation to get care for their children.

This poor guy's oxygen tank caught on fire and then his chair caught on fire and then his wall/curtains caught on fire and then he fell out of his chair and couldn't move... BUT the fire department got there quickly and they got him out safely and saved his house. I think that this is pretty great and maybe someday I can do a story about some of the great saves the emergency personnel pull off that no one ever hears about.

For a Making a Difference column- Little Miss Haley sits in a cage with a kitten at the Genesee County Humane Society. She has been collecting donations for the Genesee County Humane Society during her birthday parties for 3 years and was named the Junior Volunteer of the Year by the Genesee County Humane Society.
